Current Season 2017

SCOTT COOK AND THE SECOND CHANCES

SATURDAY, JANUARY 28

A roots balladeer with a rare personal warmth, Canada's Scott Cook has managed to distil the stories collected over a decade of near-incessant touring across Canada, the USA, Europe, Asia, and Australia into straight-talking, keenly observant verse. Road-worn, painfully honest, and deeply human, his tunes weave threads of folk, roots, blues, soul and country over spacious fingerstyle guitar and clawhammer banjo arrangements. His fourth release, One More Time Around, was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award, and its opening track "Pass It Along" won the Folk and Acoustic category in the 2013 UK Songwriting Contest, with UK magazine Maverick Country naming him "one of Canada's most inspiring and imaginative storytellers". He's currently touring around the world in support of his fifth album, Scott Cook and the Long Weekends Go Long. Cook is one of the hardest-working DIY troubadours on the road today, averaging over 160 gigs and a dozen festivals a year. All the hard miles notwithstanding, he still believes that songs can change your life, and your life can change the world.

EVERYTHING FITZ - THE FITZGERALD FAMILY  WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22

These spirited young performers are noted for their polished performances and provide wholesome, captivating entertainment for a diverse audience.  Meet the Fitzgeralds ~ a family group featuring 3-time Canadian Grand Master Fiddle Champions and Ontario Open Step Dance Champions- Tom, Kerry and Julie Fitzgerald. They are joined by their parents, Pam and Paddy as well as guitarist and lead vocalist Nate Douglas. The band presents a program of music and dance which reflects their distinct Canadian culture- namely the rich tradition of Canadian old-time fiddling and Ottawa-Valley step dancing.

UNION DUKE

SUNDAY, APRIL 30

Sweat flies and floorboards tremble – Union Duke is a Toronto folk quintet with an explosive live show. Bridging soulful indie rock with bluegrass and country, the group belts out soaring harmonies with three, four and even five voices. The songs are irresistible, the perfect fit for the heatwave of the dance hall or the cool breeze of the park. These five guys have been making a commotion in one way or another since they were kids, and years of making music together have brought them to this: a heartbreak of twang and a bootshake of rock and roll. Union Duke is two fifths city, two fifths country, and one fifth whiskey.
